Social Studies: Students were assigned to create a poster about life in B.N.A. in the 19th century. They picked either housing, transportation,health care or education for their poster. They have to take the jot notes copied in class and write a paragraph about their assigned topic. Included with the write-up will be pictures to illustrate what they have written. Their paragraph(s) is to be completed for class on Thursday. Once the paragraph is written, the student will type up the information and include the main heading and pictures. Poster due on Thursday, February 16.

Grade 8 Language Some students did not have the 9 questions assigned for homework completed. All the answers were given in class. Students were to jot the answers on the question sheet and later write the proper answers in their exercise. Grade 7 Social Studies We will be having a chapter 6 test in the near future. Students are to
review work covered in the chapter thus far.
Art - Grade 7 students who still owe me art projects are to have them passed in
a.s.a.p. Historica Fair outline will be passed out on February 23.

Grade 8 Language Arts Students were asked to bring in a novel (one they have not previously
read) for their individual novel assignment. To date many students
have not done so. I need to approve the novel choice etc. The novel
assignment will be given out on Wednesday. You cannot become
fluent readers unless you read.
Dictionary Skills Sheet #2 is due on Friday and the list word evaluation

Student reminders:

- All backboards, two copies of the judges' reports, and accompanying materials have to be at the school on MONDAY morning.

- Setup will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the grade 4 class, followed by grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Students will remain in class until it is their turn to set up their projects in the gym.

The summary copy for the judges has to contain the following:
* Why you chose your particular topic
* How your topic relates to the theme "Digging up Your Stories"
* Summary of information in the project
* What you have learned from doing this project

A one page summary is enough for the judges' copy. Do not use a font size larger than 14.

Refer to the handouts concerning the Historica Fair when finalizing your write up.

Public viewing will take place on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Historica Fair Grades 7,8,9.

I will not be available to help with your Historica Fair project after school until Monday, March 22. You should be concluding your research and getting your jot notes this week. By the end of March you should be completed your project so that you only have to practice for your class presentation when we return to school on April 12. I have allotted four Social Studies classes for students to present their class projects. These presentations must be completed before April 23. I will correct your written projects and offer suggestions and revisions so that you can make any necessary changes to your project before our school Historica Fair.

Please refer to the three page double sided handout and the evaluation sheet which was distributed in class for guidance when completing your Historica Fair project. Remember, you had since January to bgin your project and you can't delay any longer. Plagiarized projects will receive a grade of 0%.

There is a Historica Fair Presentation Sign-up Sheet in each class for students to sign up for the date they wish to present. Students who have not signed up by Monday will be placed in the availabel spaces.

Social Studies Grade 9 Portfolio Piece on Government. Go through the newspaper and find five articles dealing with the government. Read each article and then write a summary of the article. Do this for all five articles. Take the written summary, the five articles and a cover page and staple together. Pass in to me on or before March 23.

Social Studies Grade 8 Reminder about the test on Friday. The Historica projects are due on April 12 when you will present your project to your fellow classmates.

Health Grade 8 Develop a poster (use a sheeet of bristol board) convincing your peers NOT to use drugs. Provide the harmful effects of drug use, how it negatively impacts you, your family and your community etc.. Perhaps you could show what happens to young people who abuse drugs. You could bring in how your life can be ruined because of drug abuse and how the law deals with drug offences. Remember that you are trying to educate young people about the harm drugs can do in society.
